YOUR PARENT CLUB CONTRIBUTIONS help fund the School Nurse...
So, what does the School Nurse/Healthy Choices Liaison program do to support Acalanes students?
"The funding (from Acalanes Parents' Club) supports more time for the School Nurse to be available to students and staff and for dynamic health programming for the entire Acalanes community including the coordination and facilitation of the health assessment/screening of all students plus individual case management, crisis intervention, resiliency training and stress management..." ~ Dvora Citron, School Nurse
As the Healthy Choices Liaison, our Credentialed School Nurse is responsible to help coordinate many health education programs including Red Ribbon Week, blood drives, alcohol and drug prevention education, the sexuality curriculum unit, in addition to promoting parent ed discussions and providing health resources and facilitating the Acalanes Student Health Council.
Acalanes PARENTS' CLUB DONATIONS directly help students!
YOUR DONATIONS are supporting the Academic Support Center which provides direct AHS teacher to student help Monday thru Thursday from 3:00pm - 5:00pm in the library (Math M-T & Eng, French, Spanish - Wed, as posted on Acalanes Daily Bulletin for students).
Read what the students have to say about this valuable program:
"Math help has complemented my calculus AB class and helped me excel in ways I didn't think possible. When I leave Math help, I leave with a complete understanding of the material rather than just a formula. I really appreciate that the teachers stays as late as it takes for me to grasp a concept."
"It is helpful, I lean from my own teachers on a one to one basis."
"It's fun - I get to ask specific questions and get immediate feedback from the Math teachers."
APC donations are hard at work in our Peer Tutoring(PT) Department
Peer Tutoring provides a supportive atmosphere for learning that is available to all students at Acalanes. The program is designed to meet individual needs - for all grade levels serving AP and honors students, students in intervention, special ed and regular classes. Over 5,700 student tutoring sessions were logged last year alone! We are fortunate to have such dedicated Co-Directors fostering PT as an integral part of the effort to make Acalanes High School a place where everyone can succeed.
"Peer Tutoring provides a welcoming place to seek help, a quiet place to study or do homework, or a place to just stop to chat, for a very diverse cross-section of the Acalanes student body"
~ Mary McCosker & Fran Taylor, Peer Tutoring Co-Directors
